Where James Cook lodged, 1746 – 1749

17th century shipowner’s house. Grade 1 listed. Rich 18th century collections tell the Cook story. Paintings by the voyage artists, original letters written by Cook and his associates, maps, ship models and Pacific artifacts. Whitby with its old town, museums and mediaeval abbey is a rewarding day out from York.
