Beningbrough Hall, Gallery and Gardens is not a place where times stands still
Step into the Saloon Galleries to see ‘Making her mark: celebrating creative women’ in a new exhibition in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery. Diverse portraits of influential women from Judi Dench to Amy Winehouse and J. K Rowling are on display until 4 November 2018 Outside, see the newly created garden ‘The Pergola’ from the RHS Chelsea award winner Andy Sturgeon as you wander the seven acres of luxurious borders, heritage trees and the bountiful walled garden. Built in the 18th century by a wealthy teenager, numerous occupants have changed the face of this Italian style house and gardens. The changing fortunes of this grand country house are told through art and stories of prosperity, loss and reinvention. The working walled garden, grand herbaceous borders, sweeping lawns and a play area for children to let off steam creates a year-round garden. View the collection of 18th-century, portraits on permanent loan from the National Portrait Gallery on your visit along with changing temporary displays.
