Description
The Merchant Adventurers Hall is one of York's medieval marvels
Discover one of the finest medieval guildhalls in the world. Home to York’s entrepreneurs for 660 years – and counting. Fascinating tales, awe-inspiring architecture and intriguing, rare artefacts…explore this stunning timber framed building, still home to the Merchant Adventurers whose 660 year unbroken tradition of entrepreneurship, wealth and experience has built York: from the 14th century, via railways and chocolate to the 21st century Science City. The Hall also remains the everyday base for the 160 members of the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York. A Merchant Adventurer was someone who risked or ‘adventured’ his or her own money in overseas trade bringing back goods and wealth to York.
